Many people have trouble getting the Quicktime Fire Filter to work, here are the steps required to get a fairly good result.
- Put the flame filter on V1,(FX1) with no other clips
- render it. After a couple of seconds you should see the flames in that tiny rendering progress screen.
- now delete the fire filter and drag the render from the VP track onto an empty V2 track
- place a luma key below it on V2,FX1
- Finally place the video you want the fire onto on V1 and go back to the luma key to adjust it's settings thus...
Key by: Current
Channel: Luminance
Section: Inside
Threshhold: 70
Tolerance: 30
Opacity : 100
Softness: to taste
Display : Result
Render once more and there you have it.
What if the computer doesn't play ball? No flames? Try this method, use the Q.T. app MakeEffectMovie.exe (for PC, there will be something similar for Mac) from Apples Developer site to generate the effect, once this is done you need to export it from Q.T.Movieplayer as a DV size clip, then just luma key it in EditDV as shown.
