EditDV Application Note #11

Editing in Segments

Editing long features can consume a tremendous amount of hard disk
space, and it is not always prectical to have all of the material “online”
(on your hard disk) all the time.

By using the Batch Capture features in EditDV 1.5, you can edit a
many-hour project with only a few free gigabytes. By detatching,
recapturing, and reattaching clips as needed, you can proceed through
an edit in segments.

This assumes that you have a system capable of assembly-editing the
segments, although this is not necessary if you can keep the finished
segments online at the same time, deleting source clips when they are no
longer needed. This, however, requires 13.5 free gigabytes per hour of
finished material, not counting source material.
