Tips on saving Custom Filters & Transitions

Submitted by Andrew Herring

There are two ways to save custom filters, here they are.

  1. save so new filter is available to all projects - this is the standard way to save a custom effect which is covered in the manual. All you do is customize a filter in the timeline, then "drag and drop" it into the Effects Palette/Window and you'll be prompted for a new name to call your custom filter (you can also highlight the filter in the timeline and use the "Save Filter" item from the "Edit" menu, ...but the drag and drop method is quickest). Now everytime you load EditDV up, that new custom filter will appear in the Filters Palette, just like all the factory preset ones, ...which means you can use it on any of your old projects that you might load or any new ones you might create).
  2. save so new filter is only available in the current project - If you drag a filter or transition from the sequencer to any 'Bin' it copies it (using the exiting name). It is then possible to drag a copy back to a new position in the sequencer without any typing. Two points to note about using this system:- - The filter is saved ONLY with this project so for temporary customised transitions its ideal. - The transitions is visible as a blank black picture but is not listed when in text view of the bin.
