Whats The Best Way To Get Cassette Taped Audio Into EditDV?

Submitted by Bob Brandia

The best proceedure for importing sound into EditDV and get the most out of those old audio tapes.

Try capturing the audio into an audio-edit program, or if the software you used to capture the sound isn't too powerful transport it into a mulitpurpose audio package ( like Peak if you're on a Mac or Sound Forge for PC) and apply parametric equalization filters to remove the frequencies of the tape hiss and rumble that you want to "delete". It may take some experimenting, but results can be pretty good. Then ensure the file is sampled at 48K and save as a Quicktime or AIFF which will then Import to EditDV. Not much you can do after-the-fact for wind that was recorded at the scene. But, next time try a wind sock over the mic.
